![]() JIM CASELLA Chairman, CEO Case Interactive Media Jim Casella launched Case Interactive Media (CIM) in March of 2007. CIM is affiliated with Austin Ventures, where Jim also serves as CEO-in-Residence for their Growth/Private Equity practice. He retired as Vice Chairman of Reed Business (Reed Elsevier's business-to-business division) in January of 2007. During his tenure as Vice Chairman he established joint ventures in China and India. In China the joint venture was established with International Data Group and several government agencies. The Indian joint venture was established with Infomedia India LTD. He joined Reed Business Information in January 2002 as CEO of its US operation, and led the company through a difficult national economy while keeping a clear focus on long-term growth. "Our commitment has to be on the delivery of 'must-have' products and services essential to the growth of our customers," Jim said in min magazine, where he was featured as one of the 21 Most Intriguing People in Publishing in 2003. RBI's traditional portfolio of products - more than 100 publications and more than 75 Websites - also received substantial attention. Under Jim's leadership, the company completed several large-scale redesigns including Weekly Variety, Broadcasting & Cable, Interior Design, Professional Remodeler, Video Business, Design News, Purchasing, Furniture/Today, Industrial Product Bulletin and Electronic Business. In addition, Reed Construction Data's Connect 3.0, lead generation platform was released in January '04. The website revenue increased dramatically over the past several years. Bridging the present with the past, Jim's close relationship with International Data Group (IDG), where he served as its Chief Operating Officer, during the mid 90's, and his desire to accelerate RBI's future revenue growth by expanding into the critical and booming Chinese market, led to a strategic alliance between both companies. Under this joint venture, RBI with IDG, which has been publishing in China for more than 20 years, has launched such publications as Variety, Purchasing, Interior Design, TWICE, EDN, Design News and In-Stat in China. Jim's investment in the company's products was complemented by his investment in employees. Driven to develop a program that nurtures the talents of RBI's next generation of leaders, he directed the launch of an innovative training initiative entitled The Reed Global Publishing Institute. This intensive one-week training program aggressively prepares a cross-section of employees - now from across the globe - for productive and bright futures within Reed Business. A History of Leadership Over the course of Jim's career, he has held numerous leadership roles. These include the position of Chief Operating Officer at IDG, as mentioned earlier, as well as President and CEO of PennNet (now PennEnergy), President of ABC Consumer Magazines, a division of Capital Cities/ABC, and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for HBJ Media Systems at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. Jim has served on the boards of two formerly listed NASDAQ companies - IDG Books and Ask Jeeves, prior to its sale to Interactive Corp. He was a member of the Executive Council for Reed Elsevier, RBI's parent company. Jim is also an active member within the American Business Media (ABM), the B2B publishing industry's professional organization. He was a member of its Executive Committee, serving as Vice Chairman, most recently. He is currently on the board of directors of Infomedia India LTD, which is listed on the Bombay Exchange and on the board of directors of Jigsaw Data Corporation, a private company, backed by Austin Ventures, El Dorado Ventures and Norwest Ventures. Jim was honored at the ABM's spring meeting in 2005, as the recipient of the prestigious McAllister Fellowship, recognizing his unique contributions to the industry. Jim received his BA cum laude from Boston College in 1970. He and Mary Claire, his wife of more than 30 years, reside both in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area. |
